How to Enroll and What to Expect

Classes start every Monday. Registration takes just one appointment.

Before starting training, you’ll need to register in person at our West St. Paul campus. Registration takes about 30 to 60 minutes and must be completed the week before your class start date.

How To Register

Call 651‑735‑9250 during business hours to schedule your registration appointment. When you arrive, bring:

  • Your valid driver’s license
  • Your CDL permit (if you’ve passed the tests)

You’ll also complete an English comprehension evaluation at this time. To be admitted into the program, you must pass this evaluation.

You do not need your CDL permit to register—but we strongly recommend you earn it by your second week of training to avoid delays. We’ll help with test prep after you enroll.

DOT Physical: You must have a valid USDOT physical by the end of Week 2. If you already have one, a second is not required. If not, we’ll help schedule it.

What to Expect in Week 1

  • Location: 33 E Wentworth Ave, Suite 120, West St. Paul
  • Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (required for all students)
  • Off-Site Training: Conducted off-site on Wednesday and Friday (transportation provided)
  • Lunch Provided: Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday

Important: All students—full-time or part-time—must attend Week 1 full-time. If you can’t commit to the full Week 1 schedule, you will not be allowed to enroll.

What Happens After Week 1

Training continues into Week 2 and beyond with flexible scheduling. Full-time students progress faster, but we support part-time training as well. There is no pre-set timeline—you’ll train until you’re fully prepared to pass your CDL road test.

CDL Permit Tips

You can start without a permit, but getting it during Week 2 is essential for staying on track.

  • Study the Minnesota CDL Manual (we have copies or you can download it online)
  • For practice, we recommend www.cdltests.com

How We Train

Hands-on learning, personalized support, and job-ready skills.

At Interstate Truck Driving School, you’ll get more than just CDL prep — you’ll get a training experience built for results. From day one, you’ll be learning by doing, backed by real instructors, real equipment, and a team that’s here to help you succeed.

In the Classroom

Strong start. Smart structure.

Your first week sets the tone. You’ll begin with an orientation to trucking and the Interstate training process. By day three, we assess your skills and build a lesson plan around your experience. From there, you’ll move into inspection procedures, backing, and safe vehicle operation.

You’ll also complete required FMCSA theory training online — at your own pace — through a structured, tablet-friendly program. Our CDL road test system has no delays and includes free retests if needed.

On the Simulators

Train smarter. Build confidence.

We’re the only private truck driving school in Minnesota using advanced driving simulators — the same tools trusted by top trucking companies. These simulators give you the chance to sharpen skills in a safe, controlled environment before hitting the road.

Sim time never replaces road time — it’s designed to boost it. You’ll still get real truck experience, but you’ll be better prepared, more confident, and further ahead when it’s time for testing and employment.

Our pass rates are among the best in the region, and companies who hire our grads tell us the extra training makes a real difference.

On the Road

Real trucks. Real progress.

When it’s time to get behind the wheel, you’ll train on the same kinds of trucks used across the industry. Our instructors work with you one-on-one to make sure you’re confident, competent, and ready to test.

And when you’re ready? You test. We don’t make you wait weeks for a slot. You move forward when you’re prepared — no delays, no extra charges.
