Many local trucking jobs, from dump trucks to box trucks, require a Class B CDL, the license you need to drive a straight truck rated at 26,001 pounds or more. At Interstate Truck Driving School (ITDS) in West St. Paul, you get one-on-one road instruction on a straight truck with air brakes, covering 12 key driving skills. The program prepares you for the Minnesota Class B CDL road test.

Yes. You need a Minnesota commercial learner’s permit (CLP) to train on public roads, and you must hold it at least 14 days before your road test.
To get your permit, you pass the general knowledge and air brakes knowledge tests at a Minnesota DVS exam station. Then you take the skills test, which covers a pre-trip inspection, basic control maneuvers, and a road test.
Since February 7, 2022, first-time Class B applicants must finish Entry-Level Driver Training (ELDT) before taking the skills test. The training must come from a provider listed on the FMCSA Training Provider Registry.
Yes. You’ll need to complete Class A entry-level training and pass the Class A skills test through a program like our Class A CDL training.
Yes. ITDS is on the Minnesota Department of Public Safety’s list of licensed truck driver training schools for Class A, B, and C.
