April 1st UPDATE
Submitted by Bill on
As I am sure you are aware, Governor Walz ordered a shutdown of non-essential businesses last week. This shutdown is currently in effect until April 10th.
The Dept. of Homeland Security has designated truck drivers as essential workers. Interstate Truck Driving School remains open and we are training and testing students. We have made major adjustments to our training programs in order to comply with the requirements of the CDC.
MN exam stations are closed but the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued as waiver that is in place until June 30, that allows anyone who has their permit and has passed their CDL road test to legally operate a commercial vehicle without a CDL holder in the seat next to them, as long as they have a document in their possession stating they have passed the CDL road test. This allows new drivers to drive as long as there is a CDL holder in the vehicle, including the bunk. We are fortunate to have a third-party examiner in WI who continues to test our students and can provide that documentation. Bottom line, students that have their permit can start their training now, complete the training, and take the CDL road test which will allow them to drive Commercial Vehicles without a CDL holder next to them. Certain restriction apply.
